Aussies sweep Bangladesh

06th September 2008

Australia completed a 3-0 clean sweep of its one-day series against Bangladesh, winning the third and final match by 73 runs at Marrara Stadium in Darwin this afternoon.

The home side, having won the toss and chosen to bat, managed a modest 5 for 198 from their 50 overs before dismissing the Bangladeshis for 125 inside 30 overs.

Mike Hussey was the most prolific of the Australians with the bat, stroking an unbeaten 57 from 72 balls.

Shaun Marsh (30), Shane Watson (27) and captain Michael Clarke (25) all made starts, while Cameron White joined Mike Hussey as a not out batsman with 22.

Watson, Clarke and David Hussey (11) were all dismissed via run outs leaving Abdur Razzak with 1 for 22 and Farhad Reza with 1 for 43 as the only wicket-takers amongst the visitors' bowling core.

Opener Tamim Iqbal produced a man-of-the-match performance for Bangladesh with an innings of 63, but unfortunately he was given little support from his team-mates with Shakib Al Hasan (27) and Razzak (14) the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Queensland all-rounder James Hopes was the best of the local bowlers with 3 for 30, while Watson and Stuart Clark both claimed two wickets with figures of 2 for 8 and 2 for 12 respectively.

Mike Hussey was named man-of-the-series, having also made 85 in the opening match of the series, which Australia won by 180 runs.
