Bollywood stars hit the high road

11th May 2009

Scenes for a new Bollywood thriller have been shot in the Highlands.

Director Vishal Pandya filmed part of his Purple Lake movie, which features Indian star Nausheen Ali Sardar, in Urquhart Castle and Inverness.

He had headed for Scotland in search of atmospheric grey skies - but arrived amid a spell of sunshine and blue skies.

Purple Lake, which also stars Akshay Kapoor and Ashish Chowdhry, is scheduled for release later this year.

The Hindi-language Bollywood film industry is one of the largest producers of movies in the world.

The appearance of Indian film stars in the Highlands came just weeks after the Oscar success of Slumdog Millionaire, which was shot in Mumbai and featured a reference to Kingussie, a village in Badenoch and Strathspey.

The UK is said to have the largest audience for Bollywood movies outside of India.
